Privacy

The short version: this is a static website. There are no accounts, no logins, no tracking cookies, and no advertising. We have very little of your data because we went out of our way not to collect it.

Reading the site

You can read everything here without identifying yourself. We do not set tracking cookies, run ad networks, or build profiles of readers. If we use analytics at all, they are aggregate — page counts and referrers, not individuals — and we do not sell or share that data with anyone.

The newsletter

If you subscribe to Res Ipsa Machina This Week, your email address is handled by Buttondown, the service that sends the newsletter. We use your address to send you the newsletter and for nothing else. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing works immediately. Buttondown's own practices are described in its privacy policy.

Email

If you write to us — a pitch, a correction, a complaint — we keep the correspondence the way anyone keeps email. We do not add you to any list because you emailed us.

Changes

If our practices change — say, we add analytics or move newsletter providers — we will update this page and the date at the top.
